Jaime Luis Hernández is a contemporary artist whose vibrant canvases reflect a life deeply rooted in the tropics. Born on the tropical island of Puerto Rico, he was immersed in the breathtaking beauty of the ocean and its surrounding landscapes from an early age. This idyllic upbringing instilled in him a profound appreciation for nature’s artistry, which continues to serve as a primary source of inspiration. At a young age, Jaime traveled with his family through Europe, inspired by the many museums and historical landmarks they encountered on their way to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, in Africa. There, he attended an American Community School and learned to speak English.
Driven by a passion to develop his artistic expression, Jaime pursued a formal education in art, earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) degree. For over three decades, he shared his knowledge and passion for creating art with aspiring artists as an art instructor. This long and fulfilling career allowed him to hone his own painting skills and master his technique while nurturing the creative talents of others.
He began marketing his art, attending national shows, which garnered him new clients and significant success. As a result, his work has been featured on numerous book covers and products sold at major retailers like Barnes & Noble, Target, and Walmart. However, Jaime always dedicated his focus to his personal artistic journey and exploration on canvas.
Seeking new avenues for artistic exploration, Jaime began working with a large, prominent fashion company. This venture allows him to collaborate with a portfolio of iconic American fashion brands, including Ann Taylor, Chico’s, Talbots, Lane Bryant, Loft, Soma, White House Black Market, and Haven Well Within, and further refines his aesthetic sensibilities.
Today, Jaime dedicates much of his time to creating large-scale acrylic paintings that capture the essence of coastal landscapes and contemporary modern art. His canvases are alive with soft colors, expressive brushstrokes, and a palpable sense of energy. Whether depicting the serene tranquility of a secluded beach or the abstract interplay of color, shape, and light, Jaime’s canvases invite viewers to immerse themselves in the beauty and wonder of the natural world he creates
